Charles Yoder
Silkscreen & Lithography Faculty
Born in Germany in 1948 to two American army sergeants, Charles Yoder spent his formative years on military outposts both in country and out. Three years at the University of Maine (Orono) led to two years at and a BFA from Pratt Institute (Brooklyn, NY). An off-chance interview at an uptown gallery looking for a part time job led to a position as director of Castelli Graphics. A friendship with artist Robert Rauschenberg led to a job as his curator installing shows in the US, Europe and Asia. Charles currently teaches lithography and silkscreen at the School of Visual Arts. Through all this, he has continued his art making and exhibiting his work. He has had seventeen solo gallery shows, two museum retrospectives and innumerable group shows. He has been the subject of many essays, most notably in the Fine Art Connoisseur magazine, the International Artists magazine, ARTnews, Artists’ Magazine and artsmagazine. He is currently the president of Artists’ Fellowship, a 161 year-old non-profit foundation dedicated to providing relief and assistance to professional artists in dire financial need.
